Learn to let go when you decide to move to a new home. If you want a fresh start, then you can forget about your old stuff and other unnecessary things you have when you move. To be more productive, you can instead put your extra things on a garage sale and not bring them in your new home.
 
Think about it this way, if you are going to bring all your things, you are going to spend more in moving them. Certainly, you have to pay the moving company to take care of everything you have. But if you decide to choose some things behind, then you are going to save more than you can imagine. Remember, it doesn't hurt to be more practical these days.
 
If giving your stuff to charity will give you peace of mind and sense of fulfillment, do it. Think about the people you are going to help when you decide to share some of your stuff with them. Maybe your things are better off with other people and not just lurking around your basement or storage room.
 
Finally, it's not just unnecessary properties you have that must be left behind but other items too like perishable products. You can create a list of things that you must leave behind if this makes everything easier.
